Welcome to my eFolio
"But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant."
These profound words were spoken by non other than Jesus Christ in Matthew 22:11
Service is an intangible commodity that can be rendered by pretty much anyone for pretty much anything. So why is service so imperative to our society today? Personally, it gives me a sense of pride that I was able to develop or even encourage another individual, family, organization, etc. Service shows your passion for helping others because you never know, you may need it one day as well.
This May of 2013, I will graduate from Holy Cross College. The school's mission is to offer its students an education that "forms competent minds and courageous hearts for leading indomitable lives." Here, there is an understanding that an education can be achieved through service, service you give to other countries, communities, organizations, etc. Thus, I have been challenged and driven to search for a career that I could put my service to use in everyday life, rather than searching for a career in the terms of how much money they will offer me for my services.
Hello, and welcome to my eFolio. My name is Shawn Brown and I am a senior at Holy Cross College, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sociology. I was born and raised right here in South Bend, IN. After graduating from James Whitcomb Riley High School in 06' I entered the college world unsure of what I wanted to do or who I wanted to be. After one unsuccessful year of attending Indiana University of South Bend I withdrew and decided to pursue the workforce. One year after that I felt the strong need to get back into school and continue my education. I was encouraged by one of my good friends to look into Holy Cross because of the new basketball program. Needless to say the rest is history.
During my four years at Holy Cross, I have been fully immersed in other countries across the world such as Brazil and the Czech Republic, experienced cultures that has molded and revamped my views on the world which intern has had an everlasting impact on my life. I have interned with Teachers Credit Union's human resources department where I have gained an abundant knowledge of benefits & compensation, recruitment & retention, training & development and various other projects. I have volunteered as a mentor for the Juvenile Correctional Facility and as a tutor at Harrison Elementary School. I have also been involved on campus as the Residence Assistant for Pulte Hall for 2 years, played for Holy Cross Men's Basketball Team for 1 year then became the Manager/Student Player for the team.
Throughout my eFolio, you will get to learn about me and my experiences at Holy Cross College, how I have and will continue to live life through "Service."
